Abstract

This study aims to measure the level of Competency, the level of Self-Efficacy, and the effect of Competency on Self-Efficacy in facing Management Trainee program selection among final-year students of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Padjadjaran (FEB Unpad). The study was motivated by a preliminary survey of 38 final-year students showing that 47.3% remained hesitant or unconfident about the selection despite having adequate competency records. A quantitative method with a descriptive-verificative approach was employed. Primary data were collected through a Likert-scale questionnaire distributed to 125 respondents selected via proportionate stratified random sampling. Competency was measured using the eight-dimension NACE (2021) framework, while Self-Efficacy was measured using Bandura's (in Schunk & DiBenedetto, 2023) three dimensions: Magnitude, Strength, and Generality. Data were analyzed using SEM-PLS with SmartPLS 4. The results show Competency falls into the High category (mean = 3.684) while Self-Efficacy falls into the Moderate category (mean = 3.389). Competency positively and significantly affects Self-Efficacy (path coefficient = 0.682, T-statistics = 14.724, p = 0.000), explaining 46.5% of its variance (R² = 0.465) with a large effect size (f² = 0.869). This gap between high Competency and moderate Self-Efficacy indicates that competency mastery does not yet fully translate into self-confidence in facing selection.
