Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of AI-based chatbot interventions in reducing work-related stress among Generation Z workers in Indonesia. A quasi-experimental design with a pre-test post-test control group was employed, involving 130 participants equally divided into the intervention group (n = 65) and the control group (n = 65). Work stress levels were measured using the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10). Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon and Mann–Whitney tests. The results indicated that the intervention group experienced a significant reduction in stress scores, from 15.00 to 12.75 (p < 0.001), while the control group showed only a minor and non-substantive decrease, from 15.02 to 14.92 (p = 0.014). Furthermore, the Mann–Whitney test revealed a significant difference in post-test scores between the intervention and control groups (p < 0.001), with the intervention group reporting lower stress levels. These findings confirm that AI chatbots are effective digital coping tools for managing workplace stress among Generation Z workers. Practically, the study supports the integration of AI chatbot interventions into workplace health programs as an alternative or complementary strategy to conventional mental health services
