This study aims to comprehensively assess community social resilience in facing the environmental crisis, with an emphasis on the role of vulnerable groups (poor women, scavengers, marginalized communities) in waste management using a comprehensive sociological approach, viewing waste management as part of efforts to build community social resilience. The environmental crisis caused by waste issues is a serious challenge in Gowa Regency, characterized by increasing waste volume, weak governance, and limited synergy between actors. This study aims to analyze community social resilience, particularly the role of vulnerable groups, in facing the environmental crisis based on six indicators of social resilience. The research method uses a qualitative approach with a case study design through in-depth interviews, observation, documentation, and document review. The results show that vulnerable groups, especially women and scavengers, play a central role in waste management through strengthening social capital, community participation, local innovation, and adaptation to change. Although institutional support is increasing, limited access to infrastructure and program sustainability remain major obstacles. This study emphasizes the importance of collaboration between the government, community, and the private sector to strengthen social resilience and realize inclusive and sustainable waste management in Gowa Regency.
